🚧 Avatar Customization 🚧
TL;DR
The UX team at Virbela identified various usability issues with the original avatar customization flow through evaluative research methods. The avatar creation process was redesigned to support a new generation of Virbela avatars.
Although this project complete, this case study is still a work-in-progress and may only include screen captures of the completed work.
Designing the solution
Original Design
Upon encountering the original avatar customization tool for the first time, people were presented with a completely random avatar. The system would randomize any available attribute. (hair style, skin color, clothing, etc). The original design also displayed a left-aligned menu bar for different customizable avatar attributes. Selecting an option in this menu bar would spawn a carousel-like interface near the avatar, where the user could toggle through options, but without seeing the breadth of available options. Through evaluative research methods, multiple usability issues were identified.

Low-fidelity Wireframes
A series of low-fidelity wireframes were created as a result of iterative ideation. The goal was create a system that would guide the user through a customization process rather than display all available options at once.
